Read our cover letter example for all jobs

A cover letter is a one-page document that you include with your job application (alongside your CV or Resume).

Its purpose is to introduce you and provide a brief overview of your professional background. Your cover letter should be between 250 and 400 words long on average.

A cover letter should be used in conjunction with your resume, not in place of it. That is, you do not simply repeat what is on your resume.

If you’re writing a cover letter for the first time, all of this may seem daunting. After all, you aren’t a professional writer.

The thing is, you don’t have to be creative or even good at writing. All you have to do is stick to a tried-and-true formula:

Header – Enter your contact information here.
Welcome to the hiring manager
Opening paragraph – Use 2-3 of your most notable accomplishments to pique the reader’s interest.
Second paragraph – Describe why you are the best candidate for the job.
Third paragraph – Describe why you are a good fit for the company.
